LOCATION
Meningie’s Waterfront Motel is located at Meningie, a town of approx. 1200 people, set on the shores of
Lake Albert; about 1.5 hours’ drive from Adelaide along the Princes Highway and is a charming holiday destination located at the northern end of the unique and fascinating Coorong National Park. The numerous parks beside the lake, the reeds and the large numbers of birds, all combine to make it a town of particular beauty.
Today, with modern agricultural methods of irrigation and cropping, Meningie is known as a successful dairying area as well as producing hay, cattle, sheep and a substantial acreage of crops. The town also has a fishing fleet who work the lake as well as the Coorong.
Good tracks enable conventional vehicles to access all major features along the mainland side of the Coorong, which is over 100 km in length and separated from the Southern Ocean by the Sand Dunes of the Young Husband Peninsula. There are many interesting nature trails with an abundance of bird life such as pelicans, egrets and swamp hens and idyllic spots for day visits.
The Golf, Sailing and Lawn Bowls Clubs provide first class facilities and attract many groups from all over South Australia. Meningie has one of the best country golf courses in the State. There is active football, netball and sailing clubs. Meningie were 2014 football premiers in the local football league. The CFS, SA Ambulance and SES groups are also active.
